Sporting Kansas City continues the team's Eastern Conference road trip at the New York Red Bulls at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. The match will be nationally televised on NBCSN and can also be heard locally on Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Gran D 1340 AM.
Sporting KC's official watch parties will be held at the Johnny's Tavern locations in the Kansas City Power & Light District (1310 Grand Boulevard) and Overland Park (6765 W. 119th Street). Select Boulevard draft specials will be available, as well as the "Blue Believer" signature cocktail (Dragon Berry, Lemon-Lime Red Bull and Blue Curacao).
Sporting Kansas City has lost three consecutive MLS matches for the first time since May 2012, but is undefeated in their last three contests at New York including a 2-0 triumph on September 19, 2012 and a 1-0 win on April 17, 2013. Additionally, Sporting KC has notched three straight clean sheets at Red Bull Arena and currently holds a 338-minute shutout streak in the stadium.
Sporting KC's two wins at Red Bull Arena place the visitors in an elite group -- along with the Chicago Fire -- for having registered multiple victories at the 25,000-seat venue. New York maintains a 45-12-20 regular season home record since moving into the new facility in 2010.
The New York Red Bulls are also coming off a defeat in their most recent match, losing 2-0 to Eastern Conference leaders D.C. United at RFK Stadium last weekend. The Red Bulls lead MLS with 2.36 goals scored per game at home in 2014 and boast a 5-2-4 record at Red Bull Arena this season, while Sporting KC has the most road wins in MLS this season with seven.
Saturday's match features the top two teams from the 2013 MLS season. The New York Red Bulls finished one point ahead of Sporting KC to claim the Supporters' Shield, while Manager Peter Vermes' side went on to win MLS Cup 2013. In 2014, Sporting KC currently sit in second place in the East while New York has slipped to seventh.
The League's leading two goal scorers will be showcased on Saturday in New York's Bradley Wright-Phillips and Sporting KC's Dom Dwyer. Wright-Phillips leads the League with 20 goals scored in 2014 and Dwyer is one shy of the team's all-time single-season record with 17.Wright-Phillips suffered an injury at the Red Bulls training session on Wednesday but is expected to be available on Saturday. Dwyer returns to the squad after missing his first match of the season on Wednesday while serving a one-game suspension for caution accumulation along with teammate Benny Feilhaber.
New York will be without Tim Cahill (Australia), Ambroise Oyongo (Cameroon), Matt Miazga (U.S. U-20) and Santiago Castano (U.S. U-20) due to international duty with their respective national teams. Sporting KC's Erik Palmer-Brown (U.S. U-20) is with Miazga and Castano in Buenos Aires, Argentina and is also unavailable for Saturday's match.
