Sporting Kansas City faces Fluminense FC's U-23s in the club’s second match of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. CT (kick off delayed due to weather). The match will take place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. and will be streamed live on SportingKC.com.
Fluminense FC, one of the top clubs in Brazil, is represented by their under-23 team at the eight-team tournament. Fluminense FC is known to be one of the world's leaders in youth development as evidenced in producing players such as Thiago Silva (Paris Saint-Germain), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Rafael (Manchester United) and his twin brother Fabio (Manchester United) in recent years.
The Brazilian club from Rio de Janeiro fell 1-0 to the Montreal Impact in their first match of the Pro Soccer Classic on Wednesday. On the Impact’s goal, Fluminense goalkeeper Klever Rodrigo Gomes Rufino got his finger tips on the initial shot from Montreal defender Hassoun Camara, but the rebound fell into the path of Sanna Nyassi for the easy finish.
Sporting KC also returns to the pitch following a decisive one-goal match, defeating the New York Red Bulls 1-0 courtesy of Jacob Peterson’s 65th minute sliding finish. The 2013 MLS Supporters' Shield winners will face the MLS Cup Champions in the 2014 MLS regular season at Sporting Park on May 27.
Sporting KC spent their first phase of the 2014 preseason in Tucson, Ariz. at the Kino Sports Complex, earning victories over FC Tucson (PDL) and Indy Eleven (NASL) as well as a draw against the Portland Timbers.
