Sporting Kansas City will aim for a sweep of the season series with Minnesota United FC when the teams play at 7:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minn.
Sporting prevailed 2-1 in the previous match-up in July as goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland made six saves. The 32-year-old veteran leads all Western Conference goalkeepers with 50 saves over the last 11 matchdays and he moved into a tie for ninth on the club's all-time saves chart this past Saturday in Sporting's 2-1 loss to Austin FC.
Notably, all three goal scorers from the last MINvSKC meeting have since departed as Dejan Joveljic (Seattle Sounders), Manu Garcia (Aris FC) and Devin Padelford (Red Bull New York) are all now at different clubs. Conversely, both rosters have welcomed new additions in the past three months as Minnesota acquired defender Cherrion Valerius (loan from NAC Breda), midfielder Aziel Jackson (loan from Jagiellonia Białystok) and forward Maurice Malone (transfer from SK Sturm Graz).
Sporting's summer window was headlined by the arrival of Designated Player Andre Luiz -- who has 10 goal contributions (seven goals, three assists) in his first 10 appearances -- and U22 Initiative Player Owen Wolff, the son of Minnesota United assistant coach Josh Wolff. Owen Wolff, who was named to the MLS 22 Under 22 for a fourth straight year last week, is one of 10 players aged 21 or younger to play for Sporting Kansas City this season, including 18-year-old Ian James who grew up in the Twin Cities and played in the Minnesota United FC Academy.

Wednesday's fixture will be the 29th encounter between Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota United since the Loons joined MLS in 2017 -- the most of any opponent for both teams -- and SKC leads the all-time series with a 13-10-5 record. Minnesota has the upper hand at home with a 7-2-4 mark, however the Loons have struggled at Allianz Field in 2026 with the fewest home wins (3) and fewest home goals (19) of any MLS team this season.
While Sporting is no longer in playoff contention, Minnesota enters the mid-week match-up coming off a scoreless draw in Houston - after conceding multiple goals in nine straight games --and faces the possibility of being eliminated from the postseason race for the first time on Wednesday after the Loons reached the conference semifinals each of the last two years.

Led by head coach Cameron Knowles, Minnesota United FC's roster features two of the top attacking talents in the Western Conference with the Designated Player duo of Kelvin Yeboah (17 goals, fourth most in West) and Joaquin Pereyra (13 assists, third most in West) along with MLS All-Star Anthony Markanich (21 goals in all competitions from 2025-26). Defensively, Michael Boxall (New Zealand) and Carlos Harvey (Panama) represented their countries in the FIFA World Cup this summer.
Wedneday's Western Conference clash will be available to watch in English (Neil Sika and Lloyd Sam) and Spanish (Francisco X. Rivera) on Apple TV in addition to local radio coverage on Sports Radio 810 WHB (Blake Aerni and Jon Kempin) and La Grande 1340 AM (Josue Orantes and Diego Gutierrez) with audio streams in the SKC mobile app. All of the aciton will also be shown in pub partners across the Sporting Pub Network.
