Radio Rewind: Tony Meola, Tim Melia and Matt Besler join Sports Radio 810 WHB

Tony Meola

With World Cup fever reaching peak levels and the MLS regular season in full swing, Sports Radio 810 WHB has welcomed a host of soccer figures during a momentous week for the sport.

Former Kansas City goalkeeper Tony Meola, a member of the inaugural Sporting Legends class in 2013, joined The Border Patrol on Tuesday morning from Russia, where he has announced matches for FOX alongside play-by-play partner J.P. Dellacamera. In a wide-ranging conversation with hosts Nate Bukaty and Steven St. John, Meola reflected on his experiences calling games for FOX, shared his thoughts on England's breakthrough performances and even shed some MLS insight as the MLS campaign reaches its halfway point.

While The Border Patrol visited with an all-time club great, Sporting KC Show host Carter Augustine caught up with Sporting KC's current goalkeeping star Tim Melia. The reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year ranks among the league leaders in multiple categories and feels good about his team's chances of curbing a three-game winless skid that began on June 30.

Lastly, club captain Matt Besler made his customary appearance on The Border Patrol this morning, reacting to the thrills of this summer's World Cup and looking ahead to Saturday's pivotal road match against the New York Red Bulls. That cross-conference showdown will air live at 6 p.m. CT Saturday on FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest Plus, Sports Radio 810 WHB and ESPN Deportes KC 1480 AM.
