Recap: Sporting KC cruises to 7-0 preseason victory over Phoenix Rising FC trialists

Sporting Kansas City continued their 2019 preseason, presented by Childrenā€™s Mercy, by cruising to a 7-0 victory over Phoenix Rising FC at Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex in Tempe, Arizona on Wednesday morning.

Krisztian Nemeth gave Sporting KC the lead in the 33rd minute, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after Felipe Gutierrez was brought down inside the area. Eight minutes later, Kelyn Rowe doubled the lead when he latched onto Rodney Wallaceā€™s deflected cutback and lashed a left-footed half volley in at the near post.

Into the second period, Daniel Salloi made it 3-0 when he latched onto a loose ball in the area and slotted beyond the goalkeeper after Gianluca Busio had been dispossessed in the 57th minute. Seth Sinovic added a fourth in the dying moments of the second period, picking up Busioā€™s through ball and cutting beyond his defender before lashing home a low strike into the bottom corner.

Sporting KC completed the scoring with three goals in the opening four minutes of the final 30-minute period. Academty product and Rangers forward Wilson Harris scored twice in as many minutes, first firing home powerfully from 20 yards before lobbing a deft finish over the Phoenix goalkeeper. Fellow Academy product Tyler Freeman added the seventh and final goal with a low finish into the near post after Justin Bilyeu had surged into the area.

Sporting KC returns to the field next Wednesday, January 30 when the side wraps up the first leg of preseason against FC Tucson trialists in Tempe, Arizona.
