Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City and Sporting KC named Sarah Gonzalez, a Math Teacher and Varsity Head Girls Soccer Coach at Shawnee Mission West High School, the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan for the month of September.

Sarah, a Shawnee Mission West grad turned soccer standout at KU, always dreamed about coming back to her alma mater and this year coached the lady Vikings to the 6A State Championship! As noted by a parent, Sarah has greatly impacted their daughters and many others due the time she spends helping, teaching and coaching student-athletes. Her positivity and inspiration spreads throughout the community and inspires kids to dream big about their future!

Sarah has been named on multiple occasions as the Coach of the Year in the Sunflower league, in the state of Kansas and in the NSCAA along with a nod as the National Honors Society Teacher of the Year. Please give a big round of applause for Coach Sarah Gonzalez, our Blue KC Sporting Samaritan!

Sarah was formally recognized on the field at the Sporting KC game on September 9, 2016. To learn more about the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan program and to nominate visit sportingkc.com/bluekc
