SKC II Signs Danny Barbir

Sporting Kansas City II has signed former U.S. youth international defender Danny Barbir, the club announced today. Barbir will join the Sporting II roster pending league and federation approval.

Barbir, 21, most recently suited up for German Verbandsliga side Sandhausen II while on loan from Romanian outfit Astra Giurgiu. He made 12 appearances for the club in the latter stages of the 2018-19 season, helping the side to a second-place finish in the Verbandsliga.

The Allentown, Pennsylvania native joined Astra Giurgiu in Romania in early 2018, but did not appear for the side. Barbir has prior experience in the USL Championship, representing Vancouver Whitecaps 2 in 2017, making three appearances after joining the club late in the campaign.

Barbir spent the majority of his youth career in England, first with powerhouse Manchester City before joining West Bromwich Albion in 2014. He signed his first professional contract with West Brom in 2015 and made 16 appearances for the club’s Under-23 side, tallying one goal and one assist. In early 2017, Barbir went on trial with Stoke City’s U-23s and tallied one goal in three appearances.

Barbir began his youth career in Pennsylvania with Lehigh Valley United and Players Development Academy before joining the Philadelphia Union Academy prior to his journey abroad.

Internationally, Barbir has represented the U.S. at the Undrer-15, Under-17 and Under-19 levels, including two appearances at the 2015 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile.
