Sporting KC announces jersey number updates ahead of 2020 season

Sporting Kansas City has confirmed jersey number updates for six players heading into the 2020 MLS season.

With new arrivals joining the club and two returnees making switches from 2019, the numerical roster has a slightly different look.

At the forefront, Sporting's two international imports have selected numbers for their debut campaigns in Major League Soccer. Mexican striker Alan Pulido will wear No. 9, the same number he has donned for the majority of his professional career in Liga MX, while Croatian center back Roberto Puncec has taken No. 4.

Re-acquired forward Khiry Shelton, who wore No. 14 for Sporting in 2018 before joining German side SC Paderborn 07 last year, has chosen No. 11 for the 2020 campaign. Goalkeeper Richard Sanchez, taken in the Re-Entry Draft, will take No. 1.

Two players back in Sporting blue have switched numbers, with Spanish center back Andreu Fontas swapping No. 4 for No. 3 and Honduran midfielder Roger Espinoza switching from No. 17 to No. 15. Espinoza previously wore No. 15 from 2011-2012, having also donned No. 17 (2008-2010, 2018-2019) and No. 27 (2015-2017) during his Sporting tenure.
