Sporting Kansas City announced today the composition of the club’s roster for the 2023 MLS season, which will kick off Monday with a visit to the Portland Timbers at 9 p.m. CT on Apple TV, Sports Radio 810 WHB and La Grande 1340 AM.
The information below discloses the designations for Sporting Kansas City’s senior and supplemental roster, international roster spots, Designated Players and U22 Initiative Players.
Entering the 2023 campaign, Sporting Kansas City has 29 rostered players and one open roster slot. The club has filled 19 of 20 spots on its Senior Roster and all 10 on its Supplemental Roster.
Sporting has four players occupying international roster slots in 2023: Willy Agada, Tim Leibold, Nemanja Radoja and Robert Voloder. Five Sporting players have recently received their green cards and no longer occupy international slots: Andreu Fontas, Gadi Kinda, Logan Ndenbe, Erik Thommy and Marinos Tzionis. The club currently has two open international spots available.
Sporting’s Designated Players for 2023 are Kinda, Thommy and Alan Pulido, and its U22 Initiative Players are Ndenbe, Tzionis and Voloder.
Lastly, jersey numbers have been assigned to Sporting's five offseason newcomers, namely Leibold (No. 14), Radoja (No. 6), Robert Castellanos (No. 19), Danny Flores (No. 31) and Chris Rindov (No. 82). In addition, Tzionis has changed his jersey number to 77 after wearing 27 last year.
