Sporting KC defeats Colorado Rush in Development Academy

Sporting KC U-16s vs. Colorado Rush - Feb. 24, 2017

The Sporting Kansas City Academy U-18s and U-16s cruised to a pair of U.S. Soccer Development Academy victories over the Colorado Rush on Saturday at Fort Hays State University Soccer Stadium in Hays, Kansas.

Abdu Kikhia, Mario Magana and Alex Kaddah scored goals while goalkeeper Steve Tekesky kept the clean sheet for the U-18s (10-5-0, 30 points) in a 3-0 win that solidified second place in the Central Conference’s Frontier Division.

Five days after clinching a spot on the 2017 Generation adidas Cup Championship Division in April, the U-16s won 5-1 as Gada Ambo, Gianluca Busio, Sean Karani, Jonathan Munoz and Luke Rafanan all found the back of the net. The U-16s also find themselves in second place in the Frontier Division heading into March.

Both teams continue Development Academy action next weekend with two games each in the state of Texas. Saturday’s doubleheader will see the U-18s and U-16s face Lonestar SC at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin. On Sunday, Sporting KC will travel to face the Houston Dynamo at Houston Sports Park, with games again kicking off at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
