Sporting KC legend Jimmy Conrad hosts impromptu 5-on-5 tournament with fans

Kansas City soccer legend and self-proclaimed "current awesome person of all time" Jimmy Conrad took to social media last week to invite fans to meet him at Rockhurst University for a pickup game of soccer on Saturday, April 30. He was visiting his old hometown for the weekend and hoped to connect with his fans for an impromptu kick-around.

Conrad had hosted a similar meet-up during a previous trip to Kansas City, drawing a crowd of about 20 people, so when he pulled up to the site of the scrimmage and saw more than 40 fans warming up, he was blown away. So many fans turned up, in fact, that Conrad decided to transition the scrimmage into a spontaneous five-on-five tournament.

After the competition came to a close, Conrad stuck around to sign autographs, give advice and take photos with fans.

"It's so positive to have these kick-arounds, because people are in such a good mood," Conrad said, speaking with the Kansas City Star. "They're from all kinds of backgrounds and they come from different things, but they all love they game, so we're all speaking the same language. It's one of the most positive things that I've been a part of."
