Sporting Kansas City teamed up with Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer and DeCloud Studios for a 2013 calendar for the Kansas City-based organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for treatments of childhood cancer. The 2013 Year of Hope calendar features 12 local childhood cancer heroes and Sporting Kansas City players: Matt Besler, Teal Bunbury, Bobby Convey, Michael Harrington, Kei Kamara, Chance Myers, Jimmy Nielsen, Soony Saad, C.J. Sapong, Seth Sinovic, Konrad Warzycha and Graham Zusi.
"Sporting Kansas City is excited to help support those affected by childhood cancer through our involvement with the Year of Hope calendar," Zusi said. "It was a lot of fun getting to meet the kids, all of whom have truly amazing stories. They have been through so much in their lives and are the real stars in the calendar. It was an honor for those of us from Sporting KC to have the opportunity to be included."
Fans may purchase calendars for $15 at www.BradensHope.org or at Harvest Moon Natural Foods in Olathe, Kan. Braden’s Hope will also be selling calendars during the Sporting KC game on Friday, Sept. 28 in the Sprint Plaza. All money raised from the sales of the 2013 Year of Hope calendar will go directly to Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer to raise awareness and fund research grants given to hospitals and research institutions dedicated to find treatments and cures for childhood cancers exclusively.
“This is a story about Sporting Kansas City, our U.S. Open Cup Champions, demonstrating a caring attitude, community involvement and philanthropic spirit,” said Deliece Hofen, President of Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer. “It is a story about children with will and fight that is unmatched. It is a story about hope, smiles and memories that were made during the photo shoot that cancer can never take away.”
Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer was started by Braden Hofen’s family after he relapsed with neuroblastoma and was told there was no known cure. Weeks later Braden’s mom, Deliece Hofen, was diagnosed with breast cancer. As the two received chemotherapy together Deliece soon realized that there were many options to fight adult cancers and lack of information and research about childhood cancers. To help Braden and other children the Hofen family created Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer to fund research for treatments to help find a cure.
Childhood cancer is the number one killer by disease among children and more children die from cancer annually than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis and pediatric aids combined. Braden’s Hope is determined to make a difference for all children fighting cancer through fundraising efforts like the Year of Hope calendar.
