Sporting KC recalls forward Dom Dwyer from loan to Orlando City Soccer Club

Dom Dwyer - 2013 Preseason

Sporting Kansas City has recalled forward Dom Dwyer from his loan to Orlando City Soccer Club, the club announced on Thursday. Dwyer returned to Kansas City today from the team’s USL PRO affiliate.

“After the latest round of the U.S. Open Cup, we have recalled Dom Dwyer from Orlando City SC,” Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes said. “Dom has been very productive and in good form with our USL PRO affiliate and we hope he can continue that same form back in Kansas City.”

While on loan, Dwyer scored 18 goals for the Lions in all competition this season, including a USL PRO-record 15 goals in 13 league games. Dwyer added three goals in the team’s run to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals and most recently scored in an international friendly against Brazilian champions Fluminense FC.

Dwyer, 22, was one of four Sporting KC players loaned to Orlando City SC in March along with Christian Duke, Jon Kempin and Yann Songo’o. Together, they have helped the first-place Lions to a 10-1-2 record at the half-way point of the USL PRO season.

A Generation adidas signing, Dwyer was selected by Sporting KC in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of South Florida. He made two MLS appearances (including playoffs) during his rookie season in addition to minutes in nine MLS Reserve League games and two international friendlies.

Dwyer will be available for selection this Saturday when Sporting Kansas City hosts the Columbus Crew at 7:30 p.m. CT at Sporting Park. A limited number of tickets for the match, sponsored by U.S. Bank, are available online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Sporting Park Box Offices.
