Sporting Kansas City has earned multiple Club Executive Awards from Major League Soccer for outstanding front office contributions throughout the 2019 season, MLS announced today.

At the forefront, Sporting Kansas City has received Security Team of the Year honors for the first time. Additionally, Sporting’s ticket sales staff garnered the following awards:

  • Full Season Ticket Sales – Commissioner’s Club
  • Full Season Ticket Renewal – President’s Club
  • Ticket Service Excellence – Devan Dignan

Children’s Mercy Park hosted 20 Sporting matches this year in all competitions, including three against international opposition during the club’s run to the 2019 Concacaf Champions League Semifinals. Manager Peter Vermes’ side was the only MLS team to reach the semifinal stage of the prestigious tournament, doing so for the first time in club history. Children’s Mercy Park also welcomed the U.S. Men’s National Team in the Concacaf Gold Cup and storied European clubs FC Bayern Munich and AC Milan in the International Champions Cup after undergoing field and stadium enhancements in early 2019.

Among several milestones reached this season, Sporting captain Matt Besler became the club’s first player to reach 300 all-time appearances, defender Graham Zusi tied a team record with his seventh MLS All-Star nod, and goalkeeper Tim Melia became Sporting’s all-time leader in goalkeeping wins and shutouts.

Off the field, Kansas City garnered national attention with festive Women’s World Cup watch parties in the Power & Light District. Sporting continued to unite players, fans and staff in support of The Victory Project, a foundation that helps children and families affected by cancer and all of life’s challenges. Sporting’s comprehensive community programming efforts also benefited the military, first responders, underprivileged youth, pet rescue and anti-bullying awareness.

Sporting Kansas City will host rivals Houston Dynamo on Saturday, March 7, in the club’s 2020 home opener at Children’s Mercy Park. The match will come one week after Sporting kicks off its MLS campaign at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, Feb. 29—the earliest start to an MLS regular season in league history.

The best way to guarantee tickets for the 2020 home opener at Children’s Mercy Park is to join the Sporting Kansas City family and become a Season Ticket Member. Several multi-game ticket packages for the 2020 season are also on sale now at SportingKC.com, including the “Mess with Texas” package that pairs the home opener versus Houston with Sporting’s home game against FC Dallas. Single-game tickets for the first half of Sporting’s home schedule will go on sale to the general public in early 2020.
