In honor of the service and sacrifice of military members and their families, Sporting Kansas City will host the club’s fifth annual Sporting Salutes match with a Purple Hearts focus, Saturday night against the LA Galaxy at Children’s Mercy Park.

Kickoff for the match is set for 7:30 p.m. CT with the first 10,000 fans through the gates receiving a Sporting Salutes lapel pin sponsored by UMB. Fans will be able to purchase Sporting Salutes apparel such as the white-camo training top, hat and scarf at all Sporting Style locations in Children’s Mercy Park.

As the match’s title sponsor, UMB will host pre-match activations on the Mazuma Plaza showcasing four organizations (Heart of America Patriot Foundation, Hiring Our Heroes, Saint Michael’s Veterans Center and Veterans Community Project) that provide services for our veterans. Also displayed on the Mazuma Plaza will be five military vehicles and the usual pre-match activities like soccer darts, a DJ and more.

The National Anthem will feature an enormous American flag, a military band to perform the anthem and an A-10 Warthog flyover. The crew that performed the flyover during the national anthem will be honored at halftime as well.

During halftime, fans will be treated to the UMB PK challenge where two lucky contestants will compete in a shoot-out from the spot against Blue. The prize money will be donated by UMB to the four veteran organizations mentioned earlier.
