Sporting KC's MLS Cup win at Sporting Park voted MLSsoccer.com's Moment of the Year

For the second consecutive year, a Sporting Kansas City championship has been voted MLSsoccer.com Moment of the Year.

In 2012, it was Sporting KC's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup win over the Seattle Sounders. This year, it was Sporting KC's MLS Cup win over Real Salt Lake.

This year's title match drew 34 percent of the final vote, followed by Portland’s postseason win over Seattle (16 percent) and Clint Dempsey being introduced in Seattle (11 percent).

It comes as little surprise that this year's MLS Cup was voted Moment of the Year. The game was not short on storylines, including the pending departure of Real Salt Lake head coach Jason Kreis, the remarkable transformation from the Kansas City Wizards to Sporting KC and the match itself, which featured two second half goals, three posts hit and ten rounds of penalty kicks.

Sporting KC's MLS Cup winning season was also voted the best sports story in Kansas City in 2013 by the Kansas City Star's readers. With 3,260 votes cast, 1,582 voters chose Sporting KC as the best KC sports story this year, besting the Chiefs turnaround (747 votes) and the Royals having their best season in 25 years (434 votes).
