Lamar Hunt

A founder of Major League Soccer and the Kansas City professional soccer franchise, Hunt pioneered the sport’s growth in the United States. He owned the Kansas City Wizards from their inaugural 1996 season until 2006, as well as the Columbus Crew (1996-2006) and Dallas Burn/FC Dallas (2003-2006). A 1992 inductee into the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Hunt was awarded their Medal of Honor in 1999, an honor presented to just three other individuals/teams in history.

Hunt sold the Kansas City soccer franchise to Cerner co-founders Neal Patterson and Cliff Illig in August 2006. He passed away in December of that year.
