Sporting Legends Preki and Tony Meola among USA Today's Top 25 MLS players ever

In honor of Major League Soccer's 25th season, JIm Reineking of USA Today has ranked the league's top 25 players of all-time. Not too surprisingly, two Sporting Legends have made the cut.

Kansas City goalkeeper Tony Meola comes in at No. 21, while playmaking midfielder Preki ranks 19th. Meola and Preki comprised the inaugural Sporting Legends class in 2013 alongside club founder Lamar Hunt.

"A goalkeeping legend in U.S. soccer, Meola had a season for the ages in 2000, setting a record with an incredible 16 clean sheets en route to leading the Kansas City Wizards to their first MLS Cup win," Jeff Reineking writes. Meola was also named MLS MVP in 2000 and was a National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee in 2012.

Preki, meanwhile, remains the only two-time MLS MVP after winning the award in 1997 and 2003. He is Kansas City's all-time leader in goals and assists.
