Sporting striker Krisztian Nemeth named to MLS Team of the Week bench

Sporting Kansas City forward Krisztian Nemeth put his former club to the sword on Saturday, scoring twice in a 4-4 barnburner against the New England Revolution at Children's Mercy Park. MLSsoccer.com took notice, placing the 30-year-old Hungarian on the MLS Team of the Week bench for Week 9.

Nemeth bagged a first-half equalizer and struck again in the 83rd minute, completing Sporting's dramatic comeback with a snap header past Revolution goalkeeper Cody Cropper. The in-form striker now has a team-best 10 goals this season in all competitions and six in MLS, tied with LAFC's Diego Rossi for third-most in the league.

After starring for Sporting in 2015, Nemeth made his way to Qatar and then to the New England Revolution, where he spent parts of 2017 and 2018. He sealed his return to Kansas City in a trade last August and has reclaimed his scoring touch in 2019, hitting double-digit goals before the calendar hits May.

Nemeth's hot start has him in contention to reach the club record for goals in a single season across all competitions. Record-holder Dom Dwyer, now with Orlando City SC, totaled 24 goals for Sporting in 2014.

Unbeaten in 10 straight regular season home games, Sporting Kansas City will host the club’s highly anticipated Retro Night on Sunday when defending MLS Cup champion Atlanta United FC visits Children’s Mercy Park for a marquee MLS matchup at 8 p.m. CT. Tickets for the contest are on sale at SeatGeek.com, and the first 10,000 fans through the stadium gates will receive a retro-themed team poster courtesy of match sponsor Kansas City Zoo.
