Swope Park Rangers sign Ghanaian forward William Opoku Mensah

SPR Signs Opoku

The Swope Park Rangers have added forward William Opoku Mensah to the squad ahead of the 2019 season, the club announced today. The signing is pending the receipt of Opoku's International Transfer Certificate (ITC), as well as pending league and federation approval.

Opoku, 23, joins the Rangers from Karela United in his native Ghana. In the 2018 Ghanaian Premier League campaign, Opoku served as captain and tallied seven goals in just 11 games, including a 19-minute hat trick against traditional Ghanaian powerhouse, Hearts of Oak, last April.

Opoku joined Karela United from his youth club, Sekondi Eleven Wise, in 2015. He helped Karela earn promotion to the Ghanaian Premier League from Division One in 2017.

The Rangers open the season on the road against New York Red Bulls II on March 9 at MSU Soccer Park, before returning to Kansas City for their home opener against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Children’s Mercy Park on March 23. All USL Championship games are streamed live on ESPN+, while tickets for home games are available via SeatGeek.com.
