The Victory Project’s mission is to enhance the lives of children with cancer and create inclusive opportunities through soccer for youth with disabilities and limited financial resources. And since its beginning it’s done just that, here are some of the ways TVP has shown up for Kansas City.
Gameday Honoree
Gamedays are not just about the plays and what’s going on the field; it’s a heartwarming celebration of courage and community through The Victory Project’s Gameday Honoree. Since 2017, this incredible initiative has honored brave children battling cancer, giving each honoree a VIP weekend filled with unforgettable experiences.
Imagine being a child facing the toughest fight of your life and then getting whisked away for a weekend of joy and adventure. That’s exactly what the Gameday Honorees experience is. Each honoree is treated like Sporting’s most important guest, enjoying training with the team, a special day of fun and moments that remind them they’re not alone in their journey. From cheering on their favorite team to making memories with their families, each game day is a testament to the power of community support.
Special Olympics Unified Team
When the Victory Project says “All,” it truly means everyone. Inclusivity is at the heart of this mission, especially through the Special Olympics Unified Team. In partnership with Special Olympics Kansas and Missouri, players with intellectual disabilities team up with those without intellectual disabilities, showcasing that soccer is a universal language that brings everyone together. It’s about inspiring and uplifting every young player, proving that the love of the game knows no boundaries.
Kick Childhood Cancer Game
Every September, as Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month rolls around, The Victory Project hosts a special event that feels like a family reunion. Past honorees and their loved ones gather for a night of soccer that’s all about celebrating their strength. Over 250 families come together, sharing stories, laughter, and a passion for the game. It’s a beautiful reminder that despite the challenges, joy can always be found in community.
Sporting Wishes
In collaboration with the Kansas and Missouri Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Victory Project works to sprinkle a bit of magic into the lives of children facing cancer. Whether it’s meeting a favorite soccer player or receiving a long-desired puppy, these wish fulfillments bring smiles and hope during some of life’s toughest times. It's proof that even small acts of kindness can create ripples of joy.
Soccer Assist Grant
Believing that every child deserves the joy of soccer, The Victory Project offers the Soccer Assist Grant, which provides $100,000 annually to clubs and organizations. This initiative ensures that young players, regardless of their circumstances, can lace up their cleats and hit the field. The smiles on their faces as they play are priceless rewards for all.
Emerging Sports Leaders
The Emerging Sports Leaders Scholarship takes this mission a step further, empowering students whose lives have been touched by soccer. Each year, five deserving students receive $5,000 as they pursue their post-secondary education. It’s about nurturing the next generation of leaders, showing them that their journey is just beginning.
