Thomas Called to Jamaica National Team

Thomas for Jamaica

Kansas City Wizards defender Shavar Thomas has joined the Jamaica National Team for their upcoming friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday, October 10 in Kingston, Jamaica. Thomas, who has 29 career appearances for Jamaica, will miss the Wizards match on Saturday against Seattle Sounders FC at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Thomas is one of six Major League Soccer players invited for the friendly by Jamaica Manager Theodore Whitmore and the selection is Thomas’ third since Kansas City re-acquired the veteran center back in a trade with Philadelphia in June.

Sunday’s game between the Carribean rivals will kick off at 6:00 p.m. CT and will be played at The National Stadium in a rematch of an August friendly that Jamaica won 3-1. Thomas played 89 minutes in the victory for the Reggae Boyz, ranked No. 76 in the latest FIFA rankings.

Thomas, in his eighth season in MLS, will rejoin the Wizards in Chicago following the friendly and is expected to be available for Kansas City’s midweek match against the Fire on Tuesday, October 12 at Toyota Park.
