Tim Melia's eighth-minute save vs. San Jose nominated for MLS Save of the Week

Tim Melia - Sporting KC vs San Jose Earthquakes - August 15, 2015

MLS Save of the Week: Week 25

Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia has earned his third Save of the Week nomination for a reaction save against the San Jose Earthquakes in last Wednesday's match. The Sporting KC goalkeeper has made four saves in six consecutive MLS regular season matches dating back to July 24.

Melia's nominated save came in the eighth minute as he denied San Jose's Clarence Goodson from close-range. After a deflected shot into the box fell to Goodson, Melia was in great position to make a reflex save. In his first full season with Sporting KC, the New York native has a 9-4-3 MLS record with 51 saves in 16 starts.

Melia is joined by Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders FC), Clint Irwin (Colorado Rapids), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire) and Josh Saunders (New York City FC) as the five nominees for the weekly award. Voting is available at SportingKC.com (using the poll above) or at MLSsoccer.com and is open through Friday morning at 1:59 a.m. CT.

Sporting KC and Melia return to MLS action this Saturday against the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The match will kick off at 8 p.m. CT with pregame coverage starting at 7:30 on KMCI-TV 38 the Spot and SKCTV.
