Sporting Kansas City vs. Richmond Kickers

Sporting Kansas City will provide a live video stream for tonight’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal as the club faces the USL PRO’s Richmond Kickers in the 98th edition of the oldest annual team tournament in American sports history.


The video stream will be available on SportingKC.com prior to kick-off and will be hosted by play-by-play announcer Callum Williams. Fans may also join SportingMembership.com to participate in a live chat for in-game updates and commentary throughout the match.


Tickets for the match are $10 for 2011 Sporting Kansas City season ticket members and $15 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased here or at the LIVESTRONG Sporting Park box office.

Due to today’s high temperatures, fans attending the match will be permitted to bring one sealed 20-ounce or smaller bottle of water into the stadium. Gate attendants will remove and keep the caps from all bottles of water prior to fans entrance into the stadium.


The winner of Tuesday’s contest will advance to the semifinal round of the tournament, set to be held on August 30th, against the winner of the match between the Chicago Fire and the New York Red Bulls. With a victory, Sporting Kansas City will host the semifinal at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in what would be the team’s first semifinal appearance since winning the 2004 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. 



The U.S. Open Cup has been held annually since 1914 and is named after Lamar Hunt, original owner of Sporting Kansas City from 1995-2006. Kansas City won the U.S. Open Cup in 2004,defeating the Chicago Fire 1-0 on a golden goal by striker Igor Simutenkov off a free kick in the 95th minute at Arrowhead Stadium on September 22nd, 2004. Current Sporting Kansas City captain Davy Arnaud featured in the starting lineup for Kansas City in the final.
