Peterson Joseph

Sporting Kansas City announced Thursday the signing of 21-year-old Haitian midfielder Peterson Joseph.

Joseph will be added to the team’s roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate and P1 Visa. He will occupy an international roster spot. In keeping with team policy, terms of the contract will not be disclosed.

"Peterson is a good, young talent, with strong qualities that over time will make him a valuable asset to the way we play," Sporting Kansas City Manager Peter Vermes said. "We’ve been trying to complete this signing for a while and we are excited to add him to our roster at such a critical time in our season.”

Joseph joins Sporting Kansas City as a discovery signing after an extensive trial period that saw the midfielder appear in two reserve matches as well as the club’s international friendly with Newcastle United at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park on July 20.

"I am happy. For me it is a change to come from Europe, obviously, but this is a step up in my career so I am happy to be able to provide my skills to the team and help the team score goals,” Joseph said. "I feel that my pace and my experience can hopefully help the team win a championship this year.”

Capped at the senior level for Haiti, Joseph earned his first international appearance in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Netherlands Antilles. Joseph has gone on to represent Haiti on five more occasions, most recently in a friendly against El Salvador on February 9. Joseph also captained Haiti at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup in South Korea.

Beginning his career domestically in 2004 with Aigle Noir AC of Port-au-Prince, Joseph joined 2010 UEFA Champions League participants SC Braga in 2007 before spending one year on loan with F.C. Vizela.
