A late penalty kick saved Sporting Kansas City last Monday against the LA Galaxy, but the fans haven’t forgotten about Jimmy Nielsen.
The Sporting KC goalkeeper won the Save of the Week for Week 25 for his sliding stop on Galaxy star Landon Donovan in the 77th minute of the teams’ 2-2 draw at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Sporting rallied from a 2-1 deficit on Omar Bravo’s 92nd-minute penalty kick to earn a crucial point at home.
Nielsen earned roughly 48 percent of the vote, narrowly topping Philadelphia Union veteran Faryd Mondragón. The recognition is Nielsen's third of 2011, along with Weeks 19 and 21, after he won the honor a League-high six times during his MLS All-Star 2010 season.
