Sporting Kansas City can secure a spot in the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs with a victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday in the regular season home finale at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. Saturday’s match, presented by Sprint, kicks off at 3 p.m. CT and will be shown live locally on KSMO and broadcast nationwide on Telefutura.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early for Saturday’s match in anticipation of a capacity crowd and highway lane closures throughout the Kansas City area. All ticketholders should read Sporting Kansas City’s official parking document prior to arriving at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
A limited number of tickets remain available for Saturday’s match and can be purchased at the LIVESTRONG Sporting Park Box Offices or online at Ticketmaster.com.
Saturday’s match will mark the second meeting between the two clubs in 2011 after the Red Bulls defeated Sporting Kansas City 1-0 at Red Bull Arena on April 30th. Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen saved a Rafael Marquez penalty kick in the first half but Luke Rodgers finished a pass from Dwayne De Rosario for the only goal of the match to give New York the win.
The Red Bulls (9-7-16), currently sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, enter Saturday’s contest coming off of a 2-0 win over the LA Galaxy on October 4th. Goals from Luke Rodgers and Thierry Henry put the Red Bulls in front while Frank Rost made three saves in goal to preserve the clean sheet for a Red Bulls team that has lost just once in their last eight matches.
Sporting Kansas City will have limited injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s clash as only defender Daneil Cyrus (L foot fracture), midfielder Luke Sassano (R knee sprain) and midfielder Konrad Warzycha (R knee surgery) are listed as out on the injury report. New York will be without veteran defender Chris Albright (R calf strain), as well as midfielders Sacir Hot (R knee surgery) and Carl Robinson (R knee contusion).
Saturday’s match will feature a wide array of festivities for those in attendance. As part of Sporting Kansas City’s Fan Appreciation Day, fans will have the opportunity to win prizes via the team’s mobile application, Sporting Explore 2.0. Following the match, there will be a party in the Members’ Club open to all ticketholders and ‘Beautiful Bodies’ will perform in the Sprint Plaza as part of the ‘Live at LSP’ concert series, presented by INK.
