Sporting Kansas City announced Monday that the club has signed 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft pick Shawn Singh.

“I’m very excited to be a part of Sporting Kansas City,” Singh said. “I have nothing but the best to say about the entire coaching staff and organization. I enjoy the style of soccer that is played here and I look forward to a great season with the club.”

Primarily a left back, Singh appeared in three preseason matches for Sporting Kansas City, notching an assist in the team’s 5-1 win over FC Tucson and drawing a penalty kick against the Under-17 U.S. Men’s National team.

“Shawn is a left-sided player who is very good on the ball,” Sporting Kansas City manager Peter Vermes said. “He has qualities that fit very well into our style of play and we're excited to see how he develops over time."

Singh started a total of 56 matches and contributed 10 assists in three seasons at UCLA after earning a spot on the team as a walk-on in 2008. Singh was also named second-team All-Pac-10 in 2010 and honorable mention All-Pac-12 in 2011.
