Wins for 13s & 14s in NPL finale

The Sporting Kansas City Under-13 and Under-14 Juniors wrapped up their 2011-12 Midwest Developmental League seasons on Tuesday with victories over Blue Valley SC at the Sporting Club Training Center in Swope Park. The matches -- rescheduled from May 6 due to inclement weather --  put both teams in strong positions for the MDL Playoffs in July.

The U13's moved into first place in the Great Lakes Division with a 6-0 victory courtesy of a hat trick from Oliver Bihuniak. Head Coach Matt Trumpp credited the "strong midfield performance from Edson Murguia, Evan Carlisle, Nebyou Mergia and Roman Knox" in the win. The squad's final record for the season stands at 10-1-1, with an enormous +41 goal differential (48 goals scored, 7 goals allowed).

The U14's (7-4-1) also recorded a shutout victory against BVSC on Tuesday, earning a 3-0 result that has the team in contention for a wildcard berth to the postseason. Cole McLagan opened the scoring in the game's second minute on a header from a corner kick taken by Dominick Parry. They doubled their lead on Jacob Weaver's left-footed shot off a cross from Paul Whitener in the 20th minute and Dakota Karns closed out the scoring with his well-placed shot inside the far post. "We have now won our last seven games," said head coach Dustin Ottesen. "We are getting healthy and peaking at the right time."
