The Sporting KC Academy U18's opened the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase with a 3-0 win over Santa Cruz Breakers Academy on Monday. Though the game was originally scheduled to kick off earlier in the day, extreme heat in Frisco, Texas pushed the match back to 9pm CT when it was a considerably cooler...101 degrees.
U18's captain Eric DeJulio opened the scoring in the first half, followed by two goals from Eduardo Moreno to give him a team-high 14 on the 2011-12 season. Assists on Moreno's goals went to Andrew Brown and Shane Woods.
The Academy's U16's will open their tournament today at 9:30 a.m. against Empire United.
