If you’re a Sporting Kansas City fan and you live in the Little Apple, then you’re in luck.
A group of Manhattan’s most devout Sporting Kansas City followers, the Aggievillains, is taking the college town by storm. Every game they grab their blue jerseys and meet up at Johnny Kaws Sports Bar for watch parties. The watch parties give fans the opportunity to come together and enjoy an exciting fan atmosphere, despite the fact Manhattan is located two hours down I-70, west of LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
Brandon Whetstone, a senior at Kansas State University, is the guy in charge of the Aggievillains. While he’s always there to set up the watch parties and makes sure things go smoothly, he is arguably one of the biggest Sporting Kansas City fans in Manhattan.
“We’re still trying to spread the word that this group exists,” Whetstone said, “because I think that there are a lot of Sporting Kansas City fans in Manhattan that still don’t know about us.”
The Aggievillains use their Twitter account, @Aggievillains, and Facebook page to spread the word and put out information around the Manhattan area about their group.
Other fans, like K-State student and Aggievillain regular, Sean McKinzie, spread the word in their own way.
“I wear my jersey on campus every game day and show my support,” McKinzie said. “Usually someone will comment and I just tell them about the game and invite them to check out the Aggievillains on Twitter or Facebook.”
While the distance may set them apart, the Aggievillains aren’t much different than the other great fan groups that support Sporting Kansas City throughout the Midwest.
Johnny Kaws Sports Bar, a locally owned bar in the heart of Manhattan’s bar district, Aggieville, plays every game on all six of their HD televisions, so regardless of where you sit, you won’t miss a second of action.
With a great venue to meet up at and dedicated fans to meet up with, every moment, every goal and every second Sporting Kansas City spends on the pitch is celebrated through the passionate soccer fanatics, the Aggievillains.
