Quotes: Sporting KC 0-1 Philadelphia Union

Team Huddle vs. Montreal Impact at Sporting Park

Peter Vermes - Manager, Sporting KC

Thoughts on the match...
We dominated the game in all aspects.  At the end of the day, we had a lot of chances around the goal. We had a lot of looks and a lot of opportunities, but zero goals, which is the biggest thing. At the end of the day we just need to score. Sometimes a team is going to get a goal on you, but with the number of chances we had, we had to score and that's on the attack today. Our heart was there, and our determination was there, we just weren't clinical around the goal.

Thoughts on the attack...
It's never easy when you play well and you have so many chances and don't score. At the same time, the performance overall is very good except that we didn't put the ball in the back of the net. We have to take responsibility for it. There were to many chances not to stick it in the back of the net. I credit their goalkeeper, he made two or three good saves, but we still were in or around the goal too much that we should have stuck one away.

C.J. Sapong - Forward, Sporting KC

Thoughts on the match...
It's obviously a tough one. We can't be letting points go at home. We had our chances and couldn't finish them. Honestly, we are the ones that kept them in the game. It's something we need to work on this week and hopefully come back next week and do better.

Jimmy Nielsen - Goalkeeper, Sporting KC

Thoughts on the match...
It was a frustrating result. We gave everything you would expect; it just didn't go our way today. We worked hard and we put in a great effort. You can't ask for more ... only the result.

John Hackworth - Manager, Philadelphia Union

Thoughts on the match...
We came here and got a result. It wasn't the prettiest of games for us. You have to give Sporting Kansas City a lot of credit. Peter Vermes has them playing very well. You saw our fight tonight and the way we were tough and resilient all the way through the match.

On Zac MacMath's performance..
He was really good. He controlled the box and made a couple key saves. He really kept us in the game.

Conor Casey - Forward, Philadelphia Union

Thoughts on the match...
They put us under a lot of pressure for good chunks of the game and we defended really well. Everybody, especially our back four, but it was a great team defensive effort. It wasn't necessarily our prettiest game but we were able to score which we haven't been able to do. It's a huge three points for us, it's something we really needed at this point in the season.

On snapping 346-minute scoreless streak...
It was about time. We've had plenty of chances to do it, we just haven't been that good in front of the goal this month. Today, we really didn't have that many chances and we were able to score, so we're just going to have to take it.

Zac MacMath - Goalkeeper, Philadelphia Union

On the shutout...
This is a big game for us coming off two loses and we need three points. Coming into Kansas City, we were hoping just to steal a point, but we knew if we kept it tight the whole game that we'd have a chance to get three points.

On the team's defensive effort in the second half...
They didn't get too many shots in the second half. The team had to just sit in and we knew they were just going to bomb balls into the box. The defense did really well to head balls away and keep it clear.

On getting the lead...
We were kind of surprised that we were up 1-0 at the half. I don't think the first 30 minutes were the way that we planned them to go. Anytime you can get a goal in the first half, you give yourselves a chance.
