With two goals on Friday, Sporting Kansas City forward Dom Dwyer stretched his goal-scoring streak to four straight games -- tied for the longest such stretch in MLS this season and second best in team history -- and became just the second player in 2014 to record three multi-goal games along with Clint Dempsey. Dwyer also vaulted to the top of the MLS goal scoring chart with 10 goals to his name this season, setting up a showcase of the league's top two scorers tomorrow night at Sporting Park with New York Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips in town.
Dwyer, 23, reaches the double digit mark in goals scored after just 12 games this season, making his 2014 campaign the second hottest goal scoring start to a season by a player in the club's 19-year history. Only Eddie Johnson -- who hammered home 10 goals in his first 10 games en route to a career-high 15-goals in 2007 -- did so at a faster rate.
Dwyer is now one of 11 players all-time with a 10-goal season in a KC uniform and the third different player in as many years to accomplish the feat following Kei Kamara and Claudio Bieler in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Check out the chart below for the club's top single-season goal scorers and the number of games it took each to tally 10 goals.

Dwyer's recent goal scoring surge -- his six goals in the month of May are the most of any MLS players -- comes after a prolific 2013 season split between Orlando City SC and Sporting Kansas City. By year's end in 2013, he had recorded 26 goals across six competitions, highlighted by his USL PRO Championship MVP performance with four goals in the final and then the game-winning goal in the Eastern Conference Championship to propel Sporting KC to MLS Cup.
