Sporting KC passes in Stage Two of MLS Re-Entry Draft

Sporting Kansas City passed with the No. 11 pick in Stage Two of the 2015 MLS Re-Entry Draft. Manager Peter Vermes opted to pass on a selection after picking goalkeeper Alec Kann in Stage One, last Friday.


Stage Two of the Re-Entry Draft was held Thursday afternoon via conference call. Two players were selected in today’s draft. Orlando City SC selected former New England Revolution defender Kevin Alston while the Portland Timbers selected former Houston Dynamo defender Jermaine Taylor.


Sporting Kansas City currently has 25 players under contract for the 2016 season. The club signed veteran midfielder Justin Mapp on Monday as the first internal Free Agent signing in MLS history.


Players who went unselected in Stage 2 of today’s Re-Entry Draft - including former Sporting KC defender Jalil Anibaba - are available to any MLS club on a first come, first serve basis.


Major League Soccer’s 2016 adidas MLS Player Combine will be held from Jan. 7-12 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, followed by the 2016 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 14 in Baltimore. Sporting KC holds the No. 11 pick in the first round of the SuperDraft.
