Game Preview: Swope Park Rangers head to Idaho to face Portland Timbers 2

Meyer vs. SAC

The Swope Park Rangers are back in action on Saturday night when they take on Portland Timbers 2 at Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian, Idaho. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT and the game will be available via live stream on SportingKC.com.

SPR heads into Saturday’s matchup with a 3-4-2 (11 pts.) record following last weekend’s 1-1 road draw with Sacramento Republic FC. After a goalless first half, the Rangers took the lead through Kevin Oliveira’s long-distance strike in the 73rd minute, but Sac Republic responded just three minutes later when Cameron Iwasa tucked away Thomas Stewart’s pass to ensure the game finished in a draw. That result brought the Rangers’ road record to 1-3-2, while the side now sits alone in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.

Timbers 2 are coming off a 1-0 victory over regional rivals Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Providence Park on May 26, where a solitary goal from Villyan Bijev was enough for T2 to take all three points. This season, Timbers 2 have posted a 4-6-1 (13 pts.) record through 11 games, including a 3-3-0 home record, placing T2 in a tie for seventh in the Western Conference.

The Rangers last hosted Timbers 2 in the season opener at Children’s Mercy Park, where SPR claimed a 2-1 victory behind goals from Kevin Oliveira and Daniel Salloi’s late game-winner. Nick Besler pulled a goal back in the final seconds for T2 but the Rangers saw out the victory in their inaugural game.

Saturday’s game, which concludes the season series between SPR and T2, will be held in Meridian, Idaho, just outside of Boise. Idaho is within the Portland Timbers' Homegrown territory and the club saw Saturday’s game as an opportunity to broaden it’s partnerships and showcase the club in the Gem State.
