The Swope Park Rangers return to the field this Saturday, Aug. 13 when they take on Real Monarchs SLC at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. CT and a live stream will be available on SportingKC.com.
The Rangers enter the weekend holding a 8-8-5 (29 pts.) record and in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference after going a club-record four games unbeaten. Last week, the Rangers played to a 1-1 draw with Saint Louis FC at World Wide Technology Soccer Park before a matchup with Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field scheduled for Saturday was postponed to Wednesday, Sept. 21 after heavy rain made the field unplayable.
Last Wednesday’s game saw forward Diego Rubio make his debut for the club on loan from Sporting KC and the 23-year-old put the Rangers 1-0 up in the 34th minute. Saint Louis FC hit back in the second period through leading scorer Irvin Herrera’s penalty kick as the two sides settled for a draw.
Real Monarchs SLC sit in 13th place in the USL Western Conference with a 6-11-5 record (23 pts.). The Monarchs have lost four of their last six games, going 1-4-1 in that time, and are winless in three games. At home, Real Monarchs are 2-5-3, but have not won in a home matchup since a 3-1 win over Orange County Blues FC on May 21. On Monday, the Monarchs played to a goalless draw with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Saturday’s showdown marks the only meeting between the two side’s this season, and the Rangers will return home next weekend to face Saint Louis FC at Children’s Mercy Park.
