Graham Zusi nearing return for Sporting KC as playoffs approach

Graham Zusi and Dom Dwyer jersey announcement - July 15, 2016

Sporting KC Manager Peter Vermes could have one more weapon in his arsenal as his club heads to Gillette Stadium this weekend to take on the New England Revolution. Vermes told media on Wednesday that Graham Zusi is available for selection and will be in the gameday roster as Sporting KC plays its final regular season match against an Eastern Conference foe.

Zusi has not featured for Sporting KC since suffering a calf strain while with the U.S. men’s national team for a pair of World Cup qualifiers earlier this month. The World Cup veteran returned to training last week but was not quite ready to play over the weekend in San Jose.

Zusi’s return could come at the perfect time for Sporting KC as the club looks to secure its sixth consecutive MLS Cup Playoff berth. The team is currently in fifth place in the Western Conference, two points ahead of both Seattle Sounders FC and Portland Timbers FC. Sporting KC is also two points back of Real Salt Lake for fourth place which would guarantee the club a home playoff game for the first time since 2013.

Sporting KC will be without Chance Myers, Lawrence Olum, Cameron PorterJustin Mapp who are all listed as out on this week’s injury report.
