Academy's Tommy Williams and Tyler Freeman join U.S. U-14 Boys' National Team

Sporting KC U-13s finish fourth at 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League - August 2, 2016

Sporting Kansas City Academy goalkeeper Tommy Williams and forward Tyler Freeman have joined the United States Under-14 Boys’ National Team for a training camp that runs from Nov. 13-20 at U.S. Soccer’s National Training Center in Carson, California.

U-14 BNT head coach Clint Peay named the 48-man roster to the team’s sole camp of 2016 on Monday. During the weeklong camp, the U-14s will play two intra-squad scrimmages on Wednesday and three matches against USSDA clubs on Saturday. The BNT will face Strikers FC at 5 p.m. CT, LA Galaxy at 6:30 p.m. and Real So Cal at 8 p.m.

Williams and Freeman are two of 44 players on the roster who currently play for U.S. Soccer Development Academy sides. All 48 members of the squad were born in 2003.

A native of Roeland Park, Kansas, Williams has featured regularly for the Sporting KC U-13s and U-14s over the last several months. He posted three clean sheets in five appearances at the Scotiabank CONCACAF U-13 Champions League in late July, helping the team finish fourth in the prestigious international competition.

Freeman scored three goals in the Scotiabank CONCACAF U-13 Champions League, including the game-winner in Sporting KC’s 1-0 quarterfinal win over Costa Rican side CS Herediano. The Shawnee, Kansas native also notched a goal for the U-14s at the USSDA Regional Showcase last month in Westfield, Indiana.

Williams and Freeman are two of seven current Sporting KC Academy players who have trained this fall with various U.S. youth national teams. Follow @SKCAcademy on Twitter for the latest Academy updates throughout the year.
