Sporting Kansas City begins its 22nd season in Major League Soccer on Saturday with a visit to D.C. United at RFK Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT with three hours of live television coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT on FOX Sports Kansas City and FOX Sports Midwest. The match will also be broadcast live on Sports Radio 810 WHB (Spanish) and La Grande 1340 AM (Spanish).
All supporters are invited to the official Sporting KC watch party on Saturday at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light District (1370 Grand Blvd.).
Sporting KC will host the “We. Together.” Season Kickoff Party presented by Ivy Investments tonight on The Green Roof, a rooftop park at 1220 Walnut St. in downtown Kansas City that will be transformed into a soccer field for the special occasion. The “We. Together.” Season Kickoff Party is free and open to supporters who RSVP at SportingKC.com/rsvp. Rooftop festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Sporting Kansas City players and coaches in attendance.
The “We. Together.” Season Kickoff Party highlights a day full of interactive fan activities in the Kansas City Power & Light District. Sporting KC’s Day of Soccer at the KC Live! Block will begin at 10 a.m. in the KC Live! Block Living Room, featuring a Sporting KC futsal court for players of all ages, yard games, live music and the first opportunity to buy Sporting Kansas City’s new primary jersey. A SportingStyle x adidas container pop-up store will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., located near the No Other Pub entrance on 13th St. and Grand Blvd.
The night will end with Sporting KC players leading a filmed Fan March through downtown after the Season Kickoff Party, beginning on The Green Roof and ending at No Other Pub. The Fan March exemplifies the “We. Together.” mantra, uniting players and supporters in a community-oriented celebration.
Sporting KC defender Erik Palmer-Brown captained the United States U-20 Men's National Team to a 1-0 victory with the game-winning goal against Mexico on Monday in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. The result means the U.S. can clinch a spot in Sunday's final with a victory over El Salvador in the final classification stage matchup on Friday. Kickoff from Costa Rica is set for 5:30 p.m. CT with an English-language live stream on CONCACAF's Facebook page and a Spanish broadcast on Univision Deportes Network. The Swope Park Rangers continue preseason preparations this week. The reigning USL Western Conference champions will travel to travel to Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana for a pair of friendly matches, meeting NASL side Indy Eleven at 1 p.m. CT Thursday and Indiana University at 2:15 p.m. CT Sunday. The Sporting KC Academy U-18s and U-16s continue their 2016-17 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season this weekend with two games each in Texas. Saturday’s doubleheader will see the U-18s and U-16s face Lonestar SC at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin.
