Preseason Recap: SPR falls 1-0 to Indiana University in abbreviated friendly

SPR Team 2017 - March 5

The Swope Park Rangers suffered their first defeat of preseason with a 1-0 loss to Indiana University in an abbreviated 60-minute scrimmage at Grand Park Sports Complex in Indianapolis this afternoon.

The Rangers’ preseason record now stands at 2-1-1 with two games left to play ahead of the season opener against OKC Energy FC at Swope Soccer Village on March 25.

SPR controlled much of the possession throughout the hour of action against the Hoosiers, but struggled to generate clear-cut chances in the final third.

Instead, it was Indiana who snatched the winner with two minutes to play, as Rashad Hyacenth tapped home from close range after a free kick was headed down in front of goal.

That left the Rangers with little time to find an equalizer as the side concluded their five-day trip to Indianapolis with a draw and a defeat.

SPR are back in action next Saturday as they take on cross-state rivals Saint Louis FC at Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. at 1 p.m. CT.
