Through the Blue KC Sporting Samaritan program, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) and Sporting KC are honoring students and teachers who are making a significant impact in Kansas City and inspiring others to do the same.
Through nominations from Sporting KC fans we are able to recognize Kansas Citians who have dedicated their lives to serving others, like Blue KC Sporting Samaritan Mindy Beashore, a second grade teacher at St. Patrick School in Kansas City, Kansas.
"I am excited and very happy! I have been teaching for eighteen years and this is the first time a parent/student has ever recognized me or brought to my attention that what I have done for them has made an impact to this extent," Beashore said while attending Saturday's home opener at Children's Mercy Park. "I think it (Blue KC Sporting Samaritans) is a wonderful program and I am excited to see it grow so more deserving teachers and students can be recognized."
Throughout the years, Beashore has taught kindergarten, first, second and third grades but always comes back to second grade – it’s her favorite! Her sound piece of advice is to not become your job but to let your job become a positive reflection of who you are.
Beashore was nominated by Janae Melvin, a parent of one of her former students.
"Last year when Logan was in her class she (Beashore) recognized a few things in Logan that helped him in school and us as a family. I was so appreciative that she took the time and cared about my son. Thank you so much for giving fans the opportunity to recognize teachers for all that they do for our kids!”
Each month the Blue KC Samaritan and their guests (3) will not only participate in the on-field experience but will also receive four tickets to the game, a parking pass and a $50 gift card redeemable for Sporting KC merchandise. Each nominator of the selected/chosen Blue KC Sporting Samaritan will receive two (2) tickets to the recognition game, one (1) parking pass and a $25 gift card redeemable for Sporting KC merchandise.
