Beam signing gives fans special chance to leave their mark on NTCDC -

Before Sporting KC and the Colorado Rapids take the field at 6 p.m. CT Sunday, supporters at Children’s Mercy Park will have a special opportunity to etch their name onto an indelible piece of Kansas City soccer history.

Sunday afternoon, the very last steel beam to be installed at the National Training and Coaching Development Center (NTCDC) will be situated on the Sporting Plaza on the west side of the stadium. All supporters in attendance will have the opportunity before and after the match to sign the beam and purchase a commemorative Sporting KC hard hat (pictured above). The Plaza will open at 4 p.m. CT.

The signed beam will be added at the NTCDC later this month, marking the completion of another exciting step in the facility’s construction roughly a mile northeast of Children’s Mercy Park.

Slated to open this winter and located just south of N. 98th Street and Parallel Parkway, the NTCDC will become the new training home of Sporting KC while also accommodating the Children’s Mercy Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center and the U.S. Soccer National Coaching Education Center.

The world-class venue — consisting of five full-size fields, an 80,000-square-foot building and the nearby Wyandotte Youth Soccer Complex — will amplify Kansas City’s impact on soccer growth throughout the country, providing an environment to develop elite players, coaches and referees of all ages.
