Jaylin Lindsey and the U.S. U-17s on the brink of World Cup qualification

Sporting KC Academy defender Jaylin Lindsey and the U.S. U-17 national team moved one step closer to qualifying for the U-17 World Cup with a convincing 3-0 win over Honduras on Wednesday. The team will close out the classification stage of the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship against Cuba on Friday. Kickoff from Estadio Maracaná in Panama City is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and the match can be seen live on UDN and the CONCACAF YouTube Channel.

After sitting the final group stage match to rest up for the classification stage, Lindsey returned to the starting lineup and put in another 90-minute shift at the right back position. The U.S. U-17s are now 3-0-0 in the competition when Lindsey starts at right back with a +9 goal differential.

St. Louis native Josh Sargent scored two goals in the victory to increase his tally to five in the tournament. Toronto FC Academy product Ayo Akinola added his fourth goal of the tournament in the 65th minute.

The United States and Honduras are currently tied atop Group D with the top two teams from Groups D and E advancing to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in India. Honduras has already played both classification stage matches so if the U.S earns a result against Cuba on Friday, it will book its second straight spot at the World Cup.
