Lindsey and USA qualify for U-17 World Cup, advance to CONCACAF U-17 Championship final

Sporting Kansas City Academy defender Jaylin Lindsey and the U.S. U-17 Menā€™s National Team qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup and the 2017 CONCACAF U-17 Championship with a 6-2 win over Cuba in the teamā€™s final game of the classification stage in Panama City, Panama.

Lindsey (No. 2 in the picture above) played the full 90 minutes in central defense after starting three previous matches in the tournament at his natural right back position. Indiana Vassilev, Andrew Carleton, Zyen Jones, Bryan Reynolds and Tim Weah scored for the U.S., who also received an own goal during an offensive barrage that saw the Americans put 14 of 23 shot attempts on target.

The U-17 MNT now turns its attention to the CONCACAF U-17 Championship title game on Sunday against archrival Mexico. Kickoff from Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City is set for 3 p.m. CT, and viewers can watch the match live in Spanish on UDN and in English on the CONCACAF YouTube channel.

Lindsey and the U.S. defeated Mexico 4-3 in the tournamentā€™s group stage on April 26, giving the Americans their first ever World Cup qualifying win against Mexico at the U-17 level.

The 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup will take place from Oct. 6-28 at six different venues across India. The tournament will consist of 24 teams, four of which from the CONCACAF region: the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica and Honduras.
