Sporting KC midfielder Roger Espinoza to miss upcoming World Cup qualifiers with back injury

Roger Espinoza - Sporting KC at FC Dallas - April 22, 2017

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Roger Espinoza will miss a pair of upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Honduras due to back spasms. The two-time World Cup veteran will remain in Kansas City to rehab his injury.

Last week, Espinoza was named to Honduras' 25-player roster for matches against Mexico and Panama. Los Catrachos are currently in fifth place in the Hex, tied with the United States on points but behind on goal differential.

Espinoza has played 14 games for Sporting KC in 2017 but was suspended for last weekend's match after being issued a red card in a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids on May 27.

The Honduran-born midfielder has made 52 appearances for his country and featured at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups and the 2012 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
