Sporting KC defender Tyler Pasher named to Canada's 40-man provisional list for CONCACAF Gold Cup

Tyler Pasher - Sporting KC vs. Central FC

Sporting Kansas City defender Tyler Pasher was named to Canada's 40-man provisional list for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup on Tuesday.

All 12 nations participating in the Gold Cup can only select players from their respective 40-man rosters. Later this month, each team will select a 23-player squad that will compete in this summer's tournament.

Pasher joined the Canada Men's National Team last week ahead of an intra-squad match on Friday and an international friendly against Curacao next Tuesday, June 13 at Stade Saputo in Montreal. Canada head coach Octavio Zambrano will reduce the size of his squad after the scrimmage, with 18-20 players dressing for the match versus Curacao.

The 23-year-old Pasher has joined Canada's senior team for the second time in his career. He previously did so in March 2015 prior to friendlies against Guatemala and Puerto Rico. The Elmira, Ontario native has also represented his country at the U-17 and U-20 levels.

Pasher signed for Sporting Kansas City last December after leading the Swope Park Rangers to a Western Conference championship in 2016, starting 26 of 28 appearances with five goals and four assists for the USL affiliate.

A versatile left-sided player who can play in attack and defense, Pasher was first named to Sporting Kansas Cityā€™s roster for the 2016-17 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League last August. He made his club debut on Sept. 13 at Childrenā€™s Mercy Park, starting and playing 90 minutes at left back versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Pasher earned his MLS debut against the same club on May 20 and has also started seven matches on loan with the Rangers this season.

The CONCACAF Gold Cup takes place every two years as the official national team championship of North America, Central America and the Caribbean. This yearā€™s tournament will run from July 7-26 in 14 host cities across the United States. Canada was drawn into Group A with Costa Rica, French Guiana and Honduras.
