ESPN2, ESPN Deportes to broadcast 2017 U.S. Open Cup Final

Kansas City Cauldron - U.S. Open Cup Final on ESPN2

The Final of the 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, U.S. Soccer's National Championship, will air live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes at 8 p.m. CT on Sept. 20.

Sporting Kansas City will host the championship match at world-class Children's Mercy Park, having previously won the prestigious tournament in 2004, 2012 and 2015. For supporters wishing to purchase tickets to the U.S. Open Cup Final, all remaining holds will go on sale to the general public Thursday at 10 a.m. CT via SeatGeek.com.

Awaiting Sporting Kansas City in the 2017 Final will be the winner between FC Cincinnati and the New York Red Bulls, who square off in tonight's semifinal at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Of the three remaining teams in the 2017 tournament, only Sporting Kansas City has won the U.S. Open Cup. FC Cincinnati and New York, meanwhile, are playing for their first and second appearances in the final, respectively. The Red Bulls were finalists in 2003, while FC Cincinnati has become the first lower-league side to reach the semifinal stage since 2011.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and the world's third-longest-running open soccer tournament. The 2017 champion will receive $250,000 in prize money and a berth in the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League.

The 2017 Final will be the second U.S. Open Cup game broadcast by the ESPN family of networks this season. The first was FC Cincinnati’s shootout win against the Chicago Fire in the Round of 16 on June 28.
