Sporting Kansas City kicked off its busiest month of the year with a two-game road trip against Eastern Conference foes New York City FC and Columbus Crew SC. Following a midweek loss to NYCFC, Peter Vermes' side earned a crucial point at MAPFRE Stadium on Sunday that kept Kansas City in the hunt for a top-two finish in the Western Conference.

As of today, Sporting KC is in fourth place in the Western Conference, but just three points back of first place Portland Timbers FC.

Here are three other things that you may have missed in Week 27 of the MLS season.

Atlanta United christens new stadium with 3-0 win

It's no secret that Atlanta United FC has had one of the most successful expansion seasons in professional sports. The team has played an attractive style of soccer that has kept them in playoff position in a much-improved Eastern Conference. They also regularly packed Bobby Dodd Stadium despite being a college football venue not designed for soccer. On Sunday, they played their first home game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in front of 40,000+ fans. It was a landmark moment for the club and the League and a welcome site for soccer supporters in Georgia.

FC Dallas continues slide down the table

While many are talking about Atlanta United's win on Sunday, equally as important is the fact that their opponent FC Dallas lost for the fifth time in eight matches. Despite winning the Supporters' Shield / Open Cup double in 2016, Oscar Pareja's men have failed to replicate their success in 2017. FC Dallas' last victory came on July 22 and despite still sitting in playoff position, they are just one point ahead of seventh place San Jose Earthquakes and two points ahead of eighth place Real Salt Lake.

Toronto FC clinches MLS Cup Playoffs berth

On Saturday, Toronto FC became the first team to clinch a berth in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs. Greg Vanney's side has been the most dominant team in the League from the start and continued their strong run of form with an impressive 4-0 win over San Jose. Toronto has won five straight games and has not lost a match since July 1. They also increased their lead in the Supporters' Shield standings to nine points and their league-best GD to +33.
