Academy Recap: Sporting KC U-17s earn 4-0 win over Lonestar SC

Sporting KC U-17s vs. Lonestar SC

The Sporting KC Academy U-17s earned a 4-0 victory over Lonestar SC on Sunday in the team's 2017-18 home opener at Swope Soccer Village.


Gabe Ramos struck twice while Tyler Freeman and Cameron Duke added goals of their own as the U-17s (3-1-0, 9 points) recorded their third consecutive win in the early stages of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy campaign. Gabe Findley recorded two assists in the wire-to-wire performance, with Freeman and Duke also setting up goals against a Lonestar side that was unable to beat goalkeeper Max Trejo.


The Sporting KC U-15s and U-19s bookended Sunday's tripleheader at Swope Soccer Village. The U-15s (1-3-0, 3 points) took a 2-0 loss before the U-19s (2-2-0, 6 points) fell 4-2 despite goals from Roman Knox and Sebastian Cruz.


NEXT UP: Sporting KC to host Generation adidas Cup qualifying

The Sporting KC Academy is set to host the 2017-18 Generation adidas Cup West Region qualifying event this weekend at Swope Soccer Village, running from Friday through next Monday, Oct. 9. The event will showcase elite youth talent from MLS academies at the U-15 and U-17 levels.


Five other MLS academies will join the Sporting KC U-15s and U-17s in the West regional, with all teams slated to play three games this weekend and an additional three qualifying matches in February. The Generation adidas Cup finals will take place in April 2018 in Frisco, Texas.


SportingKC.com will provide a full schedule of this weekend's West Region qualifiers on Monday afternoon. All matches will be free and open to the public.
