The Swope Park Rangers have signed midfielder Chase Minter ahead of the 2018 United Soccer League season, the club announced today. Minter spent the 2017 campaign with Real Monarchs SLC, who were crowned USL Regular Season champions, and has been on trial with the Rangers since the start of preseason.
Minter, 25, was selected in the Second Round (21st overall) of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by Columbus Crew SC, but did not sign with the club and instead joined USL outfit Sacramento Republic FC.
The Heath, Texas native played in six games for Sacramento in 2016 before heading to Tulsa Roughnecks FC on loan in August of that season. He made three further appearances for the Roughnecks during the tail-end of the 2016 campaign.
Ahead of the 2017 season, Minter joined Real Salt Lake’s USL affiliate, Real Monarchs SLC. He made 19 appearances for the Monarchs in their title-winning 2017 season, adding one goal and three assists.
Minter played collegiate soccer at Cal Poly State University, recording 16 goals and a program-high 21 assists in 77 games. He led the Mustangs in assists (7) as a Sophomore before leading the team in both goals and assists as a Junior (7g, 5a) and Senior (7g, 6a).
Minter was named to the Big West All-Academic Team during his Sophomore year, before being named to the NSCAA All-Far West Region and All-Big West first teams as a Junior. He also earned Cal Poly’s Big West Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Big West All-Academic Team honors as a Junior.
He was named Senior CLASS Award Second-Team Big-West Conference Midfielder of the Year in his final season with the Mustangs, while also being named to the All-Big West Conference First Team, while he was a MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List player.
Minter also spent time in the USL Premier Development League, playing for the Des Moines Menace prior to his Freshman year at Cal Poly in 2011, and also represented the Ventura County Fusion in 2013 and 2014.
